The Museum contains a first-class collection
of Western European paintings. The pictures
on view give one a good idea of different
schools and rends in classical painting.
The collection occupies eight rooms. A separait
room is devoted to Italian art. The Italian
collection includes The Good Samaritan by
Leandro Bassano, Cleopatra by Giovanni Guercino,
The Virgin and Child by Benvenuto Garofalo,Portrait
of Nicola Cucciby Bernardo Strozzi, graphic
works by Giovanni Tiepolo and works of other
Italian masters.
There is a fairly rich and extensive
collection
of the Dutch and Flemish schools. Side
by
side with canvases by Paul Rubens,
Van Dyck,
Jacob Jordaens, you find works by David
Teniers,
Pieter Neefs and Jan Fyt, a pupil of
the
famous Frans Snyders who excelled in
still
lifes. Noteworthy among the masters
of the
Dutch school are Pieter Claesz and
Jan van
Goyen. The Festive Day by Joost Cornelisz
Droochsloot and Game of Skiffles by
Cornelis
Dusart notably enliven the display
of Dutch
art.
